Each article uses a different image. Most are illustrative photographs, with the original source and exact licence recorded below and in the article caption. Two NASA satellite images document the events described; their captions give observation dates and instrument credits.
Image rights and changes
Photographers retain their credited rights. CC BY and CC BY-SA images carry the applicable licence version; resized copies remain available under that licence. ShareAlike images are distributed under the same licence as their sources. Images marked public domain or CC0 have their source status recorded. These terms apply to each image separately from the surrounding article.
Commons photographs have been resized and encoded as WebP. Cards and headers may crop the display. Images are not retouched. A source page provides additional context, including any restrictions or notices beyond the copyright licence.

Astronaut photograph ISS072-E-400084 was acquired on December 21, 2024, with a Nikon Z9 digital camera using a focal length of 200 millimeters. It is provided by the ISS Crew Earth Observations Facility and the Earth Science and Remote Sensing Unit, Johnson Space Center. The image was taken by a member of the Expedition 72 crew. The image has been cropped and enhanced to improve contrast, and lens artifacts have been removed. The International Space Station Program supports the laboratory as part of the ISS National Lab to help astronauts take pictures of Earth that will be of the greatest value to scientists and the public, and to make those images freely available on the Internet. Additional images taken by astronauts and cosmonauts can be viewed at the NASA/JSC Gateway to Astronaut Photography of Earth.
