Read without an account
Tree Day does not require registration, collect newsletter addresses or use advertising trackers. Images, styles and scripts are served by this site. Search terms are sent in the page URL to return matching readings.
Traffic logs
Our server records the time, client IP address, browser user agent, request method, recognized page path, response status and content type. Unknown paths are grouped together. Query strings, search text, referrers, cookies, authorization headers and form contents are excluded.
Protected logs expire after 60 days. A private analytics dashboard uses hashed visitor estimates and approximate locations derived from IP addresses. Server document counts and browser reading estimates are kept separate. Analytics records and their backups use the same 60-day retention period.
Optional reading statistics
If you allow statistics, first-party browser and session identifiers help estimate page visits and time while a tab is visible. Timing pauses in hidden tabs. Visible time is an estimate, not proof of attention. No browser timing is sent before you opt in. We honour Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals.
Browser identifiers expire after 60 days of inactivity; sessions renew after 30 minutes of inactivity. Your choice is remembered for up to 180 days. Declining removes analytics identifiers and stops future timing. Existing records expire under the retention policy.
Saved stories stay in your browser
The optional save button stores article identifiers in your browser. Your reading list and calculator inputs are not sent to the server. Clear your browser’s site data to remove saved stories.
